Back in 1880, the pioneer days of early San Francisco, the Conklin brothers, Frank and Joe, opened a carpet cleaning business on Golden Gate Avenue called "The Pacific Steam Carpet Cleaning and Renovating Works." In those days carpeting was made in 3-foot widths and was used in hallways and hand-sewn together to fit room sizes. Pick-up and delivery of carpet to be cleaned was done by wagon with a matched set of mules. As the carpet industry progressed, so did Conklin Bros., keeping pace with the floorcovering needs of the constantly growing San Francisco Bay Area.

After the death and retirement of the Conklin brothers, Joseph Emmons and his son Jack built a multi-store operation.

Conklin Bros. of San Jose, Inc. Abbey Carpets is a spin-off of the original multistore operation. Conklin Bros. of San Jose Inc. has now joined Abbey Carpets.

Abbey Carpets began in Sacramento, California, in 1958. During the past 40 years, Abbey has grown to over 750 locations with stores located throughout the United States, Puerto Rico, and the Bahamas. Abbey has come a long way to become "America's Choice" in flooring fashions. Today Abbey flooring and other home fashion products can be found in more than 5,000,000 homes.

While taking advantage of the benefits of a national franchise, each Abbey store is independently owned and operated. The desire to bring customers the best selction, value, and quality of products is the common thread that has brought these independent floor covering stores together. You are assured the personal attention and service you have come to expect as an Abbey customer. Plus, your local Abbey store is a member of the original and fastest growing retail franchise in the industry.

This results in national buying power which assures you great value on all floor covering and home fashion products.
